A game about two little ink creatures that live inside a café’s bookshelf. One day, they discover that they can change the world around them through words.

Equipped with those powers they enter a huge playground behind the bookshelf—almost as if built for them.

In Booknooks, two players collaboratively navigate a world, each with slightly different abilities.

The blue Inkling is able to turn physical objects into Nouns, which they are able to place back into the world where necessary. Meanwhile, the red Inkling is able to take traits from objects in the form of Adjectives, which they can then place onto existing objects in the world.

The players are tasked with making it to the end of this world using only these two abilities in their repertoire.

As the sole programmer of the project, I was in charge of the actual implementation of all the gameplay mechanics. I created the character controllers, the camera rails that followed them around, as well as the central gameplay mechanic in the form of the inklings’ special abilities. Figuring out how to best implement the combinations of different adjectives and objects was challenging, but also extremely rewarding and fun.
